An American man has discovered his biological father is none other than Michael McDonald, the legendary singer and songwriter from The Doobie Brothers.

Michael Goessling was given up for adoption nearly 60 years ago and never knew his biological father until a DNA test revealed his dad was a rock star.

“I said, so, tell me about yourself, what do you do? And so he said, well, I’m a musician,” Goessling recalled.

“And then I finally said, are you Michael McDonald? And he said, yeah, I’m afraid so.”

Michael McDonald and his then-girlfriend were just 14 when they conceived the child.

The boy was adopted by a couple who, perhaps by some stroke of fate, also named him Michael.

“I always carried that guilt with me, but just to know that he was okay and that he had a good life,” McDonald said.

The first meeting between long-lost father and son was like they’d never been apart.

“He just put his arms out and just gave me a big old bear hug and said that he loved me,” Goessling said.

The reunion instantly struck a chord, with Goessling now having a place in his father’s life.
